Galt, CA (April 29, 2008) — Building Material Distributors, Inc. [BMD] awarded nineteen scholarships that were presented by BMD’s President and CEO, Garry Tabor and the Board of Directors at the Seventeenth Annual Shareholders Meeting on April 26, 2008 in Galt, CA. The scholarship recipients and their families were in attendance as well. The scholarship programs are part of BMD’s continued commitment to supporting the young adults of both its employee-owners and of its community.
BMD instituted the first annual Steve and Anne Ellinwood Community Scholarship, which was awarded to three recipients from Galt High School: Nancy Alonso (Criminal Justice Major), Maxmiliano Canales (Civil Engineering/Architecture Major), and Jazmin Posas (Business Major). This scholarship is named in honor of Steve, former President and CEO of BMD, and Anne Ellinwood’s dedication to education, highlighted by Anne Ellinwood’s 20+ year career in public education.
Since 2002, the BMD Mort Broffman Scholarship has presented 89 awards totaling over $120,000 dollars. This scholarship is for full-time college students who are children of BMD employee-owners. This year, 16 young adults were selected based on academic achievement, community activity, and citizenship. The 2008 BMD Mort Broffman Scholarship winners were: Raymond Bagwell, DeSean Caldwell, Rigoberto Fonseca, Chelsea Garrett, John Garrett, Adam Garrision, Tiffany Graham, Ryan Johnson, Katie Kime, Alexis LaRose, Christie Liebig, Lindsey Liebig, Jennifer Malagon, Jessica Malagon, Lauren Olsen, and Lisa Olsen. The recipients will pursue higher education in business, psychology, medicine, agriculture and other disciplines.
